Set sail from the beautiful harbour at Mirissa on this exhilarating marine adventure in search of the blue whale -the largest animal ever to have lived on Earth -in its natural habitat in the warm, deep waters of the Indian Ocean. Operating between November and April, our whale watching excursions are conducted aboard comfortable, safety-certified vessels with experienced marine naturalists who provide expert commentary on each sighting and ensure that all encounters are conducted with the respect and distance that these magnificent animals deserve. Spinner dolphins frequently greet the boats enthusiastically in the bow wave, and sperm whales, Bryde’s whales and flying fish are regularly encountered during the three-to-four-hour journey. The experience of witnessing a blue whale surfacing – exhaling in a great column of vapour before diving again with a slow, majestic sweep of its tail -leaves even the most well-travelled of guests speechless.
